Sandpit Garden

The owners requested a contemporary low maintenance garden with a deck and sandpit. The customers wanted to make the most of their outdoor space as a place to sit and relax but also to remove the split level to give more space for their young son to play.

We reused some of the existing paving slabs and brick paviours as a path from the deck to the upper seating area.

We created a sandpit beneath the newly constructed deck and attached a trap door hatch so that the sandpit could be hidden when not in use. The sandpit was made of a pressure treated wood and lined with a membrane. The trap door was lined with a waterproof material so that minimal water would get into the sandpit.

A new lawn was laid and new plants were chosen for the colour of their foliage. Also plants such as Penstemon 'garnet' and Phygelius 'Winchester fanfare' were included to provide interest in summer and autumn.
