Garden Coach and Stewardship

Batello Garden Design is led by Paul Cantello, a plant-focused gardener and designer. Our emphasis is on plants, understanding gardens over time, and helping them improve year by year — not constant change or heavy intervention.

Garden Coaching

Practical, plant-led support to help you make confident decisions about your own garden.

  • 1-2 hour garden advice sessions

Clear guidance on planting, pruning, problem areas and priorities.

  • Guided plant selection

Choosing the right plants for the right place — together at a nursery or sourced on your behalf.

  • Plant review & reset sessions

Improving plant health, soil, spacing and balance, rather than replacing everything.

  • Working alongside you

Hands-on sessions where we garden together and build your confidence.

Garden Stewardship

Ongoing, thoughtful care for gardens that benefit from continuity.

  • Seasonal or quarterly visits

Editing, planting adjustments, and plant care.

  • Flexible working

I can work independently or alongside you.

  • Long-term view

Supporting the garden as it matures, year on year.

This suits established gardens and smaller landscapes where plants are the priority.

Plant Sourcing & Selection

Choosing the right plants and knowing where to find them can be overwhelming. This service is about making confident, well-informed choices.

A joint visit to a plant nursery

Choosing the right plants, and knowing where to find them, can be overwhelming. Batello offers a plant-led sourcing service designed to make the process simple and enjoyable.

Together, we visit a specialist nursery where we look at plants you’re drawn to and discuss their suitability for your garden in real time. I’ll advise on key considerations such as eventual size, soil type, aspect, seasonal interest and how each plant contributes to the overall garden.

During the visit we select plants that are right for your space and your long-term goals, avoiding costly mistakes and impulse buys. Plants can be supplied as part of a new planting scheme or to improve an existing garden, with options for delivery and installation if required.

“The resulting garden is all we imagined it to be and has turned a very neglected area of the garden into one we head to all the time. I have no hesitation in recommending them to anyone thinking of a garden makeover, however large or small.”
